Varg // Nordic Flora Series pt. 5: Crush (Posh Isolation)

#1

I find Varg’s releases super dense, so I’m not really ready to talk about this yet, but dying to talk about it with someone all the same.

How do you think this compares to/fits in with the rest of the series?

Was anyone lucky enough to get Nordic Flora pt. 4?

Personally this one feels much darker compared to the releases that have come before. Enjoying it plenty though. It’s still rich with his trademark melodies. I think he has one of the most distinctive sounds around at the moment. Curious to hear other’s thoughts. No matter what I decide about how i feel overall, I know I’m going to be spinning this a ton.

First reply derail as i’ve not digested this yet, but need to shout about the recent collab with AnnaMelina… it’s drowning ambience really hits the spot if you’d like to live life in a different solar system where everyone and everything is as it should be. Full boomkat bingo; elegant, poised, controlled etc. First time listening i was like i’s be ok if this is the music playing as my life highlight reel scrolls in front of my eyes, strong tip.

Goddamn I forgot that came out this week as well. Will listen to it next. From your description I think I’m going to love it. At the risk of turning this into a general Varg thread, what did you think of the collab with Croatian Amor?

e: Goddamn did not realise this is 55 minutes so basically a whole other album

The flora one is 55 minutes? I seem to only find an EP with 2 songs? Good vibes tho

Yea this is great. Actually, it’s my first Varg album. The sound is super sleek and dark/ethereal. Which is kind of what I’ve been looking for out of an album this year.

Are the spoken word tracks usual for Varg or is it unique to this album?

There’s the FLORA one and this:

I want to say usual for Varg, but he puts out so much material I am doubting myself. I definitely remember some on Nordic Flora pt 3. And pt 4 is listed as “Ambient/Spoken Word” on discogs, but it was a limited cassette and it hasn’t been made available digitally.

Been spinning part 5 a lot this weekend and it’s still very slippery. Starting to feel like I was rash in calling it dark, because it’s also very melodic and at times uplifting.

He’s one of the most distinctive producers around at the moment I think. An instantly recognisable sound.

Really liked this and the past nordic flora, varg brings about a lot of different styles and they kind of all fit together as kind of a swedish cyberpunk narrative. The weird millenial spoken word poems about avacado toast and red bull are still a bit too out there for me but I liked the ASMR vibes I got on this new one
