Steven Julien // Bloodline (Apron)

#1

The latest mini-album from FunkinEven using his birth name. The palette is familiar - on this one in particular it’s lots of vintage Roland gear - but he really gets something different out of it. The drums in particular are super animated from bar to bar here, with quite a raw feel.

I’m also a sucker for pretty digital workstation sounds as house melodies, so “Queen of Ungilsan” and those strings and flutes are definitely my jam.

Especially enjoyed the review of this by London record shop Low Company: https://www.lowcompany.co.uk/products/bloodline, fast becoming my primary source for good music writing…
