A track of mine was reposted on Soundcloud a few months back by a fairly renowned label in the scene, which helped boost the amount of plays quite substantially but didn’t lead to much engagement. Around 50% of these plays originate from India, and none of these listeners owned a Soundcloud account according to the Soundcloud stats. Now, I’m not saying this European club music label can’t have a large following in India, perhaps they do, but it seems a bit fishy to me, and makes me wonder how many legit and respected labels are actually buying plays to keep bookings coming in and writers writing?
