HmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMMMMHHHHHHHHMMMMMMuuuuuuuuuuMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmMmMmmmmmm Kid Cudi voice

After a somewhat chaotic roll-out the latest installment of Yeezy Season is with us, a 7-track collab with Kid Cudi. I liked it but I think it’s very rough and would’ve done better with some more polish, better lyrics, maybe even a few more tracks. Back half is much better than the front.

Artwork, posted above, is by Takeshi Murakami.

What did you think of this project?

For me personally, this is a dream come true. I remember a few years back thinking how great it would if these two made a joint album together. Everyone knows that they got crazy chemistry. Also I feel like Cudi is able to express himself very well when having Kanye on his side creatively. Overall, this project is fire in terms of both production and lyrics.

Shocked that I enjoyed this since I never had much patience for CuDi and Kanye is currently insufferable. Between this and Daytona though, given someone else’s aesthetic to focus his attention and hold him accountable, he’s delivered some enjoyable projects.

Just listening to the music, I feel that Cudi and Kanye were able to express their creativity vividly, and unlike a few of Cudi’s other past records, the rock influences work in their favour.

As someone who hasn’t cared about Cudi since MOTM, and who did not enjoy ye, and found the singing on Ghost Town to be one of the most offensive parts of the album… I am amazed by how much I am enjoying this.

Love the whole uplifting/spiritual vibe that’s threaded through the album, think the sampling is top notch, and both deliver good performances. The psychedelic edge makes it really addictive. I’m actually trying to limit how much I listen to it because I keep wanting to listen to it multiple times a day because of how short it is, but I don’t want to burn out on it. The 3 tracks at the end of the record are absolutely stellar.

This record grew on me faster than any record I can recall. Loved the back half at first but now I kinda just like it all. I was half hoping for a record of kanye-produced kid cudi moaning but i’ll take this. Super evocative. Some of the phrases just bounce around my head all day long.

I’ve been listening to all 3 of the Wyoming albums as a super (or regular length?) album and that works really nicely. Opens with a great chunk of pretty straight hip hop, goes into a super weird place, then kind of lands back on an older style of Kanye production. Very curious to hear how the Nas and 070 Shake chapters will fit into this pentaalbum.

While I’m here, I want to plug the best and most slept on Kid Cudi song - By Design

yeah I forgot to say, going back to ye after KSG made me appreciate ye more. Listening to both of them together was a good and cohesive listening experience. I haven’t listened to all 3 together because Daytona kind of stands on its own, whereas ye and KSG are more obviously siblings. I still don’t like ye anywhere near as much as KSG, but KSG did help contextualise it for me. KSG does it all better though. The sampling is as good as on Daytona, and the performances from both Ye and Cudi are top. Listened to it 1.5 times today and about to go in for a second full listen. Interested to see whether this is a short lived infatuation for me or a full blown obsession.

In the immortal words of Ronald McDonald “I’m lovin’ it!”

#9

Damn, if only you had said this on the Daytona/Pusha T thread haha.

#10

I dig that one too, FWIW.

Just thought it was funny cos Push wrote ‘I’m Lovin’ it’ for McDonald’s.

Wikipedia says it was Pharrell

#13

No, he wrote the song. Push wrote the words. He worked with The Neptunes for the entire first part of his career with his brother as The Clipse.
