How to start an online radio show?

#1

I did a radio show in college at the actual station with gear and everything but don’t know anything about online hosted shows/platforms and whatnot. Can anyone Explain Like I’m 5 about online radio and how I can get going? Any guidance is appreciated.

*there’s sooooo much noise (pun intended) in this area atm
Mixcloud is a great platform. its sounds dumb but main thing that most great radio shows have is CONSISTANCY (see tim sweeny on BIS or Lefto)
don’t bite off more than you can chew, set a regualr interval- monthly? submit tracklists, dig, have fun, is there a theme to the show? make a manifesto, stick to the manifesto,
sorry long day, hope this helped  if not do you have any specific questions?

@calum just recommended that i give http://www.azuracast.com/ a whirl. it seems like a pretty solid system.

I am currently upgrading from my previous setup of a few disjunct services - icecast (mp3 over ogg), airtime (scheduling/recording).

#7

i’ll look into it thanks. mixcloud is great but it would be cool to do things live~

#8

again, just like Shoutcast, this Azuracast thing is way too complex for me lol. I need something much simpler

#9

there also might be interest to do a 555 show with members here so we would need a platform or a way for multiple people to contribute

#10

not sure it is possible to get much more simplistic than azuracast has made it. at least if your intention is to own your own server/station.

the more simplistic approach is basically something like mixlr, etc - but all of those sorts of platforms have enough drawbacks that googling through the tougher setup ends up being worth the lost time.

well everytime i follow the instructions in command prompt nothing works so idk. im on windows 64 bit so shouldnt be an issue. even shoutcast i set up 100% correct and wouldnt work. i could have my brother who is good with computers help me out in a couple weeks though. could be a port forwarding issue or something.

if someone wants to set up an azuracast or shoutcast channel for 555 then go ahead, that person could be the group leader and we could set up a dropbox or something to send them playlists which they would then stream under the 555 channel.
