Breaks Appreciation

#1

Although we are witnessing a resurgence in breaks in recent years after it suffered a death knoll thanks to the rise of ‘indie-house’ from 2006 to 2014 or so, but the nu-skool breaks and the progressive breaks era of the late 90s and early 2000s still has a special place in my heart. DJ’s and producers like Tipper, FreQ Nasty, BLIM, Hybrid, Adam Freeland, Starecase, The Light vs PFN, Luke Chable, Chris Lake (yes, THAT Chris Lake when he was a protege of Sasha & John Digweed) and Andy Page always came to mind.

I still get chills when it comes to classic breaks tracks from that era, such as these:

Oh crap, I accidentally posted this in the wrong section. Mods please move this to the correct sub-forum, my apologies!

Adam Freeland <3 Now & Them is epic. The freq nasty remix of Sound of Da Police was also HUGE!

This too. Absolutely love the way this chugs along.

The bassline on this one, good God it’s a gem

And the distorted vocal on this which screamed ‘futuristic’ to me:

I ain’t gonna lie. I enjoyed the funky stuff as well. The Monkey Butler mixes that Parker did were ace. And that remix of California Soul that A Skillz did. And Stanton’s remix of Good Vibrations. Oh and System Addict by Plump DJs. Such happy tunes that really got crowds smiling and bouncing along. Reminds me of sunny afternoons at festivals those three.
